I am an electrical engineer and earned my BASc from the University of Ottawa, in 1979. Over the years I have done a number of electronic designs and have worked with telecommunications equipment in my day job. I am an avid hobbyist and "play" with microcontrollers and other circuitry.

I enjoy the public service aspect of our hobby, and am an ARRL-accredited VE, as well as a W5YI and WCARS VE. I dabble in HF and contesting and have installed a G5RV antenna at both my QTH's. I use a CrankIR (great antenna!) for portable use.

I also have an Advanced Basic with Honours license in Canada with the Canadian callsign VA3AVQ.

I am a member of the following organizations:

Equipment at home (EM84vw): FT991A, YT-1200 tuner, and G5RV flat-top at 50 feet with J-Pole for 2m/440MHz.

Equipment at remote (EM84oi): FT710A, and G5RV flat-top at 35 feet. J-Pole for 2m. FT2200 + MFJ TNC for APRS iGate.

Equipment in mobile: FTM300DR.

Equipment in use when activating POTA Parks:

  • Yaesu FT-450D
  • MFJ HamSticks (40m, 17m, 15m,6m and 20m)
  • Bioenno LiPo4 15AH battery
  • Evolve Maestro III Netbook with N3FJP software for logging
  • QDX transceiver for Data
  • Optional antennae: NY4G EndFed and CrankIR
